Scottburgh is situated 58km south of Durban. The warm waters of the Indian Ocean, kilometres of sandy white beaches and a year-round temperate sub-tropical climate make this quaint village a popular destination among resident and visitors.
Scottburgh’s past is steeped in both colonial and traditional Zulu culture. During 1860, Scottburgh was the first town to be laid out south of Durban and was named after Sir John Scott, the Lieutenant-Governor of Natal. The town first became home to affluent British settlers who was the first to establish sugar farms and later sugar mills in the 1850's. This was the start of an industry that is still one of the economic cornerstones of the South Coast.
The superb sheltered beach of Scottburgh is probably its main attraction. Surfers can often be spotted enjoying the top surfing conditions and golfers can tee off at the 18-hole Scottburgh Golf Course, boasting great views of the Indian Ocean. Angling and deep-sea diving are also favourite pastimes in the area.
Scottburgh has a number of educational institutions, including a number of pre-primary schools, a bilingual Primary School, and an English Language High School.
